There is a winding scenic drive along the base of the Twelve Apostles that joins the beachside suburbs. It’s part of the best drive in Cape Town and continuing further south, links to the equally spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive located beyond Hout Bay.

Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa

The Twelve Apostles is part of Table Mountain National Park. Along a stretch of the way, there are no buildings except the 5 star Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa located close to the base of the mountains.

It’s a spectacular place to enjoy high tea on the terrace, overlooking the sea or to indulge in a meal at one of the restaurants. Geography

Although the name Twelve Apostles suggests a religious significance, the mountains are named after the peaks that make up the range, of which there are actually eighteen!

The peaks all have their own unique names, like Porcupine, Barrier and Kasteel. The range’s historical name in Dutch was Gewelbergen, meaning Gable Mountains.

Travelling along the majestic Twelve Apostles is certainly a must-see in Cape Town, with such natural beauty on offer.
